(Age 97)A very longtime resident of the Wild Rose Prairie near Deer Park, Washington, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2006. He is the loving father of Kathleen Baker of Oregon City, Oregon, Margaret Gentry of Deer Park, WA, Jean Marshall of Indio, Calif, Marikay Devereaux of Deer Park, WA, and Dr. Thomas W. Crowley of Rosalia, WA. Ward enjoyed numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Born on February 2, 1909, in Mohler, Lincoln County, Washington, he attended grade school at Atalia and Oaksdale, Washington. His family moved to Wild Rose Prairie in 1920. After graduating from Deer Park High School, Class of 1927, Ward attended Washington State College at Pullman, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics in 1931, and earned a Master's Degree also in Mathematics at W.S.C. in 1932. He was a recipient of the Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honors. He and his dear wife, Lucile Veatch, were married in 1935. From 1935 thru 1937, Ward was a student and part-time instructor in Astronomy at Brown University in Providence, R.I. where he earned a second Master's Degree in Astronomy in 1937. Between 1937 and 1944, Ward was an instructor of math and astronomy at W.S.C. Between 1944 and 1956, Ward and Lucile operated the family dairy on Wild Rose Prairie. Lucile passed away in October of 2003. In 1956, Ward was an instructor in mathematic at the University of Idaho, and in 1963 he became the first director of the university's Computer Center, a position he held until 1973. In 1965, Ward earned his Doctural Degree in Astrophysics from Washington State University. Ward and Lucile have been long-time members of the Open Door Congregational Church in Deer Park. Funeral Services honoring Dr. Crowley will be at 3:00 P.M., Saturday in Deer Park at the Open Door Congregational Church directed by the LAUER FUNERAL HOME in Deer Park, WA. with Rev. Dr. Daniel N. Berg, officiating followed with interment in the Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park. A reception for all family and friends following the services will be held at the Deer Park Civic Center - please join the family. Ward's family suggests memorial contributions to the Open Door Congregational Church.
