Jesse Peter "J P" Cooper was born on January 1, 1882 in Iowa, and he was the son of George Wesley Cooper (1846–1922) and his 1st wife Susan Gray (Rummens) Cooper (1849–1885). {Although Jesse's Death Certificate informant gave his year of birth as 1882, his September 1918 World War I Draft Registration Card has it as 1881. As for his place of birth, his Death Certificate has Iowa, while the 1920 census has Georgia, the 1930 census has Illinois, AND the 1900 census has him born in Iowa, his father in Illinois and his mother in Wisconsin.}

He was married on September 23, 1900 to Annie L Newman (1887–1935), the daughter of Alonzo M "Lonnie" Newman (ca 1855– ) and Fannie (Lee) Newman (1854–1918). At the time of the 1910 census, the family was in Wilcox County, Georgia.

A railroad messenger living at 1806 Tammany Drive, Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, J P was a widower and 74 years old when he died at home on October 30, 1956 of hypertensive cardiovascular disease. Burial was the next day in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville.

Much of the above is from his Death Certificate, with Mrs Lucille Boone of 1806 Tammany Drive as the informant.
