Ronald Lee Gilliland, 79, of Bloomington, passed away on Tuesday morning June 7, 2016 at his residence comforted by his loving wife of 55 years, Janice (Anderson) Gilliland. Ronald was born September 22, 1936 in Monroe County and was the son of the late Edward and Lucille (Young) Gilliland.
Ronald was a Union Steward for International Harvester where he worked for 30 years. He was a lifelong member of New Prospect Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee and Sunday School Teacher and he was instrumental in building their Family Life Center. Ron was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Europe for 3 years and enjoyed his time abroad. He also served as a Boy Scout Leader and 4-H Leader. He enjoyed working in the garden, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an incredible loving father. He was also a proud grandfather and an avid supporter of all their activities.
He is survived by his wife along with their 3 children; Troy Gilliland (Melissa) of Bloomington, Tony Gilliland (Cheryl) of Bloomington and Heather Whitlow (A.J.) of Ellettsville. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren; Jeremiah Gilliland (Nicole), Christopher Gilliland, Amanda Gilliland, Sarah Gilliland and Evan Whitlow, 2 brothers; Jim Gilliland (Lou-deceased) and Larry Gilliland (Betty) both of Bloomington and sister Edna Gilliland also of Bloomington.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Melvin Gilliland and sister Carolyn Gilliland.
Visitation for Ronald will be Thursday June 9, 2016 from 4-8 pm and Friday June 10, 2016 from 12 pm until 1 pm at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington.
Services will be 1 pm Friday at The Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be given to the New Prospect Baptist Church.
