Obituary for Raymond Evans
Raymond Ernest Evans, son of Arthur Garfield Evans and Mary Leona Hacker Evans was born September 30, 1922 on a farm near Van Wert, Iowa and passed from this life November 20, 2008 at Osceola Nursing & Rehab Center in Osceola, Iowa at 86 years of age.
Raymond lived most of his early years in the Weldon-Van Wert area. He graduated from Weldon High School after which he was drafted into the Army. He spent 3 years in the European Theatre during World War II. After his term in the service, he farmed near Weldon. Raymond married Maxine M. Roe in 1948. Three children were born to this union, Richard, Linda and Jeff.
In 1960, Raymond and his family moved to Ames where he was employed at Iowa State University in the Swine Nutrition Department for 25 years. Upon retirement, they moved to Bakersfield, CA after the death of his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jerry Finnegan. He took his grandsons, Troy and Benjamin into his home; later moving back to Iowa where they settled in Osceola.
Raymond enjoyed gardening, farming, baseball - especially St. Louis Cardinals, bowling, going to the Casino, working outside and playing cards. He was an attentive husband and a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Those relatives who preceded Raymond in death were his parents; daughter, Linda Finnegan and her husband Jerry; son, Jeff Evans; grandson, Troy McVey; brothers, Max Evans and Louis Evans; and sister-in-law, Ruby Evans..
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Maxine Evans of Osceola; son, Richard Evans of Ames; grandson, Benjamin Finnegan (Shantel) of Norwalk; granddaughter-in-law, Chantal McVey of Spicewood, TX; great grandchildren, Hunter, Callie-Rae, Dawson of Spicewood, TX; sister-in-law, Jeanie Evans of Des Moines; other relatives and many friends.
Graveside memorial services will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery, Monday, November 24, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Darren Baumfalk,officiating.
Mr. Evans has been cremated, and no visitation is planned. Kale Funeral Home, Osceola, IA.
Interment will follow in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Osceola, Iowa 50213.
