Donna Obray, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, lost her battle with cancer, surrounded by family, on June 7, 2016. Donna was born in Provo on October 8, 1934, to Harold and Dora Hartley. She grew up primarily on a small farm in Carterville, Utah. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1952. As a young woman, Donna was known for her talents in drawing, acting, singing and storytelling. Many were disappointed that her heart belonged only to a handsome sailor she met on a blind date. One dejected lad lamented that he had been “eliminated in the semi-finals.” A classmate arranged a blind date between her and Delmar Obray, who was home on leave from the Navy. Delmar chose her because of her stunning yearbook picture but knew after one date that there was so much more to her than just good looks. Delmar and Donna were married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 8, 1953. They were married 59 years and had five children. Donna was a devoted, faithful member of the LDS Church. She served tirelessly in many church callings and especially enjoyed working in the library. Donna was thoughtful, gracious and hardworking. She had a stubborn streak and could deliver a one-liner with perfect comic timing. Her artistic eye showed through in everything she did. She was a fantastic cook, quilted beautifully and loved to scrapbook. Her family, friends and faith were the center of her world. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family thanks all the medical professionals at Huntsman Cancer Institute and hospice nurse, Cassie. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter (Lisa), brother (Elwood) and sister (Carma). Survived by her children: Lyle (Kathy), Lori, Diana and Leanne; grandchildren, Brett (Reane) and Angie; great-grandchild, Audri; and siblings, Merea, Joe, Phyllis, Edith (“Janey”) and Marianne. The viewing is on June 10 from 6-8 p.m. at Peel Funeral Home located at 8525 W. 2700 S., Magna. Funeral services are on June 11 at 1 p.m. at the LDS church located at 8059 W. 2700 S., Magna (viewing 12:00 to 12:45 p.m.). Interment will be at Valley View Memorial Park located at 4335 W. 4100 S., West Valley. Condolences: www.peelfuneralhome.com
