From The Frederick Post, Frederick, Maryland, 19 October 1931: Mrs. Sarah Ellen Shorb, wife of John H. Shorb, died at 5.15 o'clock Thursday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William M. Anders, near Taneytown. Death was due to paralysis after an illness of five days. She was aged 77 years, eight months and 16 days. She was a daughter of the late Samuel B. and Mary Ann Fox. Mr. and Mrs. Shorb resided near Keysville where Mr. Shorb had been a blacksmith for 54 years until five years ago when they moved to the daughter's home because of failing health. Besides her husband the deceased leaves three daughters as follows: Mrs. Anders, with whom she made her home; Mrs. Harry C. DeBerry, near Taneytown; and Mrs. John S. Boyd, Taneytown; also one granddaughter, Mrs. Beulah R. Anders; and seven brothers, John D. Fox, Pikesville; James N., Washington; George W., Baltimore; Joseph F., Woodsboro; Eli H., York; Charles A., Gettysburg, and T. C. Fox, Keysville.
The funeral took place at 1.30 p.m. Sunday with services at the Anders home and burial in the Keysville cemetery. Rev. A. T. Sutcliffe, pastor of the Taneytown Lutheran charge officiated. The pallbearers were: John Moser, Joseph Frounfelter, Harry Anders, Russell Eckard, John Duple and Robert Valentine.
