Married Abigail Rice Whetstone on 25 October 1904 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They had one daughter. Phyllis Whetstone Rogan.

Ex-Coal Official Dies in Restaurant
John M. Rogan, 76, of 313 St. Davids rd., Wayne, retired president of a Philadelphia coal firm, collapsed and died last night as he was leaving a Berwyn restaurant.
Rogan, former president of the David E. Williams Coal Co., 1416 Chestnut st., collapsed in a aisle of the restaurant. Dr. C. E. Rosato, of Devon, another diner, pronounced him dead. Rogan had been associated with the coal firm 40 years when he retired five years ago, his wife, Abigail, told police. He also was at one time a director of Bituminous Coal Research, Inc.
