Rhinebeck - Stanley E. Brose, 97, of Montgomery and a longtime Rhinebeck resident, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017.

Born on September 21, 1919, in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Adolph J. and May (Dahlke) Brose. Stanley married Jean G. Bell on December 20, 1941 in Camden, South Carolina and Jean predeceased him on January 13, 2015.

Mr. Brose had a passion for traditional outdoors sports, such as hunting and fishing.

He was an avid tennis player and while attending the University of South Carolina, Mr. Brose served as the Captain of their Tennis Team. He held an Eastern Lawn Tennis ranking in 1941.

Mr. Brose was drafted in 1941 by the United State Army and served until 1945. He was wounded in action during the North African Campaign and was subsequently awarded the Purple Heart.

He was a President of Brose Off-Set Lithographic Corporation based in Manhattan, until his retirement in 1983.

Stanley was a member and a Master Mason at Pioneer Lodge # 70 of Free and Accepted Masons in Hackensack, NJ, a member of the New York Athletic Club in Manhattan for over 25 years, and the Oritani Field Club in Hackensack, NJ.

He is survived by a daughter, Jean Heather Conley and her husband, Joseph of Montgomery, NY;; four grandchildren, Thomas Rikert of Mill Valley, CA, Jennifer Rikert of Hyde Park, NY, Joseph Conley of Amesbury, MA, and Jonathan Conley of West Roxbury MA; a son in law; Dale (Julie) Rikert of Red Hook, NY; along with several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Stanley was predeceased by his daughter, Linda G. Rikert, and two brothers, Adolf and King Brose and a sister, Mary E. Pollock.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 27th, 2017 at Rhinebeck Cemetery in Rhinebeck, NY. Rev. Sonja Maclary will officiate. Burial will be at Rhinebeck Cemetery, Rhinebeck.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made in Stanley's memory to the First Presbyterian Church 100 Union St., Montgomery, NY 12549.
