TATESVILLE Mr. Leo Alvey Jr., 91, of Statesville, died Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at his home. Born in Cannelton, Ind., March 8, 1924, he was a son of the late Leo Alvey Sr. and Edith Glenn Alvey. He was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church and was retired from Broyhill Furniture Mfg. in Newton. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of V.F.W. Post # 2031, The American Legion and the D.A.V. Survivors include his wife, Lillian M. Alvey, whom he married Nov. 25, 1994; daughters, Judy Taylor (Ray), of Owensboro, Ky., Monie Siscel (Donnie) of Evansville, Ind., and Mary Wyatt of Statesville; sons, Rick Alvey (Shelley) of Raleigh, Gary Kerley (Annette) of Conover, and Bobby Kerley (Barbara) of Stony Point. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 11 at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church with Father Thomas Kessler officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory with full military rites presented by the Iredell County Veterans Council Burial Detail. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., tonight, Friday, July 10, at Nicholson Funeral Home and again from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday at the church prior to the mass.
