Mrs. Mildred Ruth Baskin McElroy, 93, of Carrollton died Friday, June 3, 2016 at the Oaks of Carrollton.

She was born in Temple, Georgia on December 21, 1922, the daughter of the late Hubert B. Baskin and the late Mae Wood Baskin. She lived in the Carroll County area during her early years and when she married, they moved to Atlanta where she remained for most of her adult life. She worked for many years for the Georgia Inspection Rating Bureau in Atlanta and was responsible for rating insurance for all of this area of the state. She returned to Carroll County about twenty years ago and was bookkeeper for Belk Department Store in Carrollton until her retirement several years ago. She lived a very active, full and beautiful life and was always dedicated to her husband, her children , grandchildren, family and friends. She was always very active in church and taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of Midway Macedonia Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harris Wayne McElroy; a sister, Sarah Baskin; three brothers, Eldred Baskin, Earl Baskin and Waymon Baskin; and two sons-in-law.

Survivors include her children, Karen Kilbourne of Carrollton, Greg McElroy and his wife, Linda, of McDonough, Deborah Abraham and her husband, Alan, of Snellville, Rebecca Yates and her husband, Gwynn, of Roopville and Connie M. Matthews of Carrollton; two sisters, Ann Matthews and her husband, Bing, of Villa Rica and Charis Estes and her husband, Calvin, of Temple; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
