He was County Agent for Vernon Parish from 1939-1949 and for Richland Parish from 1949-1984. He was a member of the National County Agents Association, receiving the Distinguished Service Award in 1961. He received the USDA 40 Years Service Award in 1980. He was also a member of the Louisiana County Agents Association where he served on the Board of Directors. He was on the Louisiana State University Livestock Rules and Regulations Committee. He was a member of the Northeast Louisiana Livestock Show Board of Directors.
He served on the Board of Directors of the Rayville United Methodist Church. He was a past president of the Rayville Kiwanis Club where he received the Legion of Honor Award. He was instrumental in establishing the Richland Parish Farm Bureau and the Richland Parish Cattlemen's Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David Doles, Sr. and Bonnie Kinnard Doles; and one brother, Robert F. Doles.
He was survived by his wife, Maxine Bryant Doles of Rayville; one son, Basil Doles, Jr. of Rayville; and two brothers, Thomas K. Doles and David Doles, Jr., both of Monroe.
