Kate was a wonderful homemaker. To say that she lived her life to the fullest until the end would be an understatement. Her mottos were, "I don't want to be alive if I'm not truly living." and "I want to wear it out, not wait it out." An avid golfer who once shot her age, skier, ice skater, and swimmer into her 80's, she also enjoyed yoga, bike riding, and taking German and Italian classes. Her yard and garden were her treasures, and she worked tirelessly to make them more beautiful day by day. Family was everything to Kate; she nurtured her children and was the grandmother of all grandmothers, playing an active role in their lives right up to her passing day. With her youthful attitude and beaming smile, she was an inspiration to everyone she touched, young and old.
Kate and Joseph P. Ossola were married November 11, 1950 and enjoyed 65 years together until his passing on June 14, 2015. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Alice (nee Craig) Nevinger.
She is survived by her 5 children: Kenneth J. (Mary Jane) Ossola of Northville MI, Christine K. Clark of Collinsville IL, Daniel P. Ossola of Edwardsville IL, Joseph O. (Kelly) Ossola of Collinsville IL, and James J. (Megan) Ossola of Telluride CO; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a brother, Don (Jane) Nevinger of Collinsville IL; a sister, Ruth Spaniel, of Shiloh IL; and 9 nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday June 6, 2016 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, with Father John Beveridge officiating.
Following the celebration mass on Monday, family and friends are invited to a reception at Willoughby Farm (631 Willoughby Lane in Collinsville) from 3:30 to 7 p.m. (casual outdoor attire).
