Mary "Polly" Borders Daniel was the daughter of John Peter Borders (Bader) and Catherine Elizabeth Sellards. She was the paternal granddaughter of Johann Georg Bader and Salome Baltensperger and maternal granddaughter of Hezekiah Sellards and Jean Brevard. She is believed to have had German ancestry on her father's side of the family and Irish or Scottish and French ancestry through her mother.

She was the maternal niece of Jenny Sellards Wiley.

Mary was the wife of Isom Daniel with whom she married on August 15, 1809 in Floyd County, Kentucky. Mary and Isom had nine children. She was a slave owner in Johnson County, Kentucky. She passed away sometime after the 1860 census.
