Mr. Marvin Roy Burdette, 77, of Iva and Hartwell, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016 in Iva, SC.
Born on May 7, 1939 in Iva, SC he was the son of Columbus Leroy “CL” Burdette and the late Addie Pauline Campbell Burdette. Mr. Burdette was a retired residential building contractor of Roy Burdette Builders and a charter member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church. He was also both a former deacon of the First Baptist Church of Iva and a Cub Scout Den Leader.
Survivors include his father: Columbus Leroy “CL” Burdette of Iva; his wife: Gail Stovall Burdette; four sons: Marcus Burdette and Susan of Iva, Barry Burdette and Beth of Greenville, David Crump and Travis of Honea Path, Jason Burdette of Athens; four daughters: Ramona Ashley and Mark of Honea Path, Marilyn Parnell and Rick of Hartwell, Cynthia Marett and Cecil of Hartwell, Janice Ruinard and Ken of Anderson; fourteen grandchildren: Jennifer Maxwell, Ashlea Hatcher, Alex Burdette, John Burdette, Eliza Burdette, Page Crump, Anna Crump, Anthony Ashley, Matthew Ashley, Russell Parnell, Nathan Marett, Kaleb Marett, Rachel Marett, Calvin Ruinard; four great-grandchildren: Kelsey Harrison, Hunter Vaughn, Paxton Hatcher, and Paisley Hatcher; four brothers: Larry Burdette of Anderson, Wayne Burdette and Elaine of Iva, Tracy Burdette and Amanda of Starr, James Burdette of Starr; and one sister: Linda Moran of Iva .
Roy Burdette was preceded in death by his mother and one brother: Hoyt Burdette.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 4, 2016, at 11:00 am at the Cornerstone Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Meeks and Rev. Kagey Barrow officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Hills Memorial Park in Elberton, GA.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening. The family is at their respective homes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1543 Anderson Hwy, Hartwell, GA 30643.
