He was a graduate of Kansas Wesleyan University with a degree in Elementary Education and from Colorado State University with a degree in Wildlife Biology. He was founder and first president of both the Smoky Hills Audubon Society and the Kansas Audubon Council and served as the first chairman of the Kansas Nongame Wildlife Advisory Council. He served on the boards of the Land Institute, Kansas Ornithological Society, Friends of the Smoky Hills Museum, Hedville Elevator, Kansas Rural Center, Kansas Grazers Association, The Cardinal Foundation, Ell-Saline FFA advisory board and Kansas Farmers Union policy board.
Mr. Burr was a charter member of the Brookville Lions club and served as its president. He served 7 years on the Ell-Saline School board. He was the recipient of numerous conservation awards for his efforts with wildlife management and sustainable agricultural practices.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sheldon Burr; mother, June Burr; brother, Lance Burr; and stepmother, Norma Burr.
Survivors include his wife, Ginny, of the home; a son, Jed, of rural Saline County; a daughter, Hannah (Ross) Fellows, and one grandson, Hunter Fellows, all of Kearney, NE; and his stepmother, Joyce Burr, Salina.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 6, 2016 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Salina. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Ryan Mortuary on Sunday, June 5 from 5 until 8 pm, where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm.
Memorials are suggested to the Salina Animal Shelter, Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Smoky Hills Audubon Society.
