The History of the Love Families of the Chickasaw Nation report that Simon was crippled most of his life.

He died the same day as his father, George D. James, in 1885 at their home in Lebanon, Chickasaw Nation, IT.

Mary Agnes, born 1867, was Simon's child with his first wife Annaka.

In 1872 he married Virginia "Jennie" Byrd, sister to William Leander Byrd, Chickasaw governor; she was the mother of his 3 adult children, a son Osceola and daughters Eula (Jemison) and Dacie (Statler). All 3 were original enrollees for the Chickasaw Nation.
