He was married first to Sarah Elizabeth Bledsoe, 24 Aug 1852. She died 24 Jan 1864, Macon, Ga. Their daughter is Mary Carter Fears Schaefer.

There is a discrepancy on the death date of Jessee Fears. His tombstone clearly says he died on 1 Sept 1891. There is, however, an obituary that was published on 12 October 1892 that states Jessee Fears died "yesterday morning" which would have been 11 October 1892. Perhaps the tombstone was placed a number of years after Jessee's passing and the date was not well remembered. Or, perhaps the engraver made a mistake. In any case, the dated obituary is probably correct as it is not probable that his obituary would have been published thirteen months before his demise.
