FROM A MEMBER:
James B. Butts, a prominent Odd Fellow and a veteran of the Civil war, and father of W. A. Butts, of 1307 Fourteenth avenue, died at his home at Loysburg, Saturday morning, quite suddenly, of hemorrhages. Deceased was a native of Bedford county and was aged 68 years, 1 month, and 22 days. At the outbreak of the Civil war he enlisted in company C, One Hundred and Thirty-third regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and when his time had expired re-enlisted in company A, One Hundred and Eighty-fourth regiment, and became a member of the regimental band in January, 1864, being its leader. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, the Bedford post, Grand Army of the Republic; Loysburg lodge No. 775, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of which he was a charter member and secretary for seventeen years. He is survived by his second wife, one son, W. A. of Altoona, and two daughters--Annie M., of Waterside, and Jennie, at home.
