Edward Briggs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Briggs, was born on December 11, 1863 in Wetsel Co., West Virginia, and departed this life on May 7, 1931 at his home in Delphos, Kansas. When he was two and a half years old, his parents moved from West Virginia to Indiana, where he grew to manhood. In 1885, he came with his parents to Kansas and located in Ottawa County on Pipe Creek, east of Delphos. In 1916, he left the farm and moved to Miltonvale, where he lived until in 1921, when he moved with his family to Delphos, which has been his home ever since. For a number of years, he has been engaged in the trucking and transfer business. While pursuing this work, he contracted the disease which caused his death.

On September 24, 1891 he was united in marriage to Miss Clara Lavering. To this union were born two children, a son who died at birth, and a daughter, Bernice, a student in Delphos High School.

On July 31, 1930, Mr. Briggs confessed his faith in Christ as his Savior, and united with the Presbyterian Church in Delphos. To this confession, he was true and found much comfort in the reading of the Bible and listening to it being read. His pastor was always a welcome visitor, and held many conversations with him about the spiritual life, and found him confident that he was a child of God.

He leaves his wife and daughter, of the home; two brothers, John of Culver, Kansas and Isaac of Miltonvale, Kansas; five sisters, Mrs. Susanne Miller of Quinter, Kansas, Mrs. Mary Christ of Miltonvale, Kansas; Mrs. Flora Trefethen of Lucas, Kansas; Mrs. May Fitzpatrick of Culver, Kansas; and Mrs. Jane Morse of Simpson, Kansas; besides more distant relatives and a host of friends.

Though it was known for weeks that he could not recover, yet his going brings sorrow in his loved ones and to the community as well. He suffered much and we should not mourn for him nor wish him back to suffer. He was a kind neighbor, a kind and loving husband and father, and a friend to all who knew him.

Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church in Delphos, Rev. Ernest L. Brown officiating, and interment was made in the Hall Cemetery east of Delphos.

A quartet, composed of Mrs. J.H. Richards, Mrs. Robert James, Frank Rollings and R.A. Decker, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. W.W. Wagner sang "Nearer, Still Nearer", "The Old Rugged Cross", and "Asleep in Jesus".

The pallbearers were nephews of Mr. Briggs: Floyd Briggs, Robert Morse, George Morse, Edward Briggs, Joseph Love and Isaac Briggs, Jr.
