Mr. Harold Wolf was born to Morris Morris and Rebecca (Linder) Wolf. He enlisted into the USMC and in January 1942 he attended boot camp at Fifth Recruit Battalion, Recruit Depot, Marine Barracks, Parris Island, SC. He served during WWII until his discharge around July 1945. He rose from Private to Sergeant and was a Platoon Sergeant at Headquarters, Headquarters Company, Recruit Depot, Marine Barracks, Parris Island, SC. His first duty assignment during WWII was the Battleship USS South Dakota BB57, in the ship's 7-8 Division. His division was tasked with manning a section of the secondary battery of 20mm anti-aircraft guns. The men onboard the USS South Dakota experienced some of the fiercest fighting in the South Pacific and are accredited with downing 64 enemy planes.
