Wilma Lorene Clark Robertson, age 92, of North Little Rock, died on Monday, July 7, 2008. She was a loving mother and godly woman who had a long and joyous life. She was born on October 13, 1915, at Newark, Arkansas, to Thomas Ewing and Josephine Marshall Clark. She spent a wonderful childhood with her mama and papa, brothers, sisters, and many cousins who lived nearby. Memories of those times were cherished by her, and she entertained her children and grandchildren with stories of those days. Her parents, a widow and a widower when they met, were each raising daughters (Mertie and Gertie) at the time of their marriage; then, to that union were born Dane, Lawrence, Retha, Rilla, Willis Glen, LaVerne, Cleba, Vane, and Jim before the baby of the family, Lorene, was born. Enjoying an idyllic childhood with many adults who lavished her with presents of everything from candy to porcelain dolls, she nevertheless grew to be an unspoiled, caring, generous woman who always put others first and was steadfast in her love for others. She graduated as valedictorian of her class at Newark High School, and on May 6, 1933, married Herman (Red) Robertson. The two were married sixty-four years at the time of his death. She was the proud mother of seven daughters and two sons. Her greatest enjoyment was being a mother and she put all of her energy into loving them all, cooking the best tasting food for them, and sewing for her girls. It has often been said that she made each of her children feel as special as if they were the only one she had. Her extended family of children, grandchildren, in-laws, and friends, always appreciated wonderful home cooking at her table. Some of her specialties were biscuits, cornbread, hot tamales, and chicken-and-dumplings but all of her cooking was top-notch. She was baptized as a teen and attended the Church of Christ throughout her lifetime. At the end of her life, she was a member of the Oak Grove congregation in North Little Rock. She was admired for her faith and the Christian life she led. She and her family attended Sylvan Hills Church of Christ for many years. She was preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters, her husband, and her first-born child Lucy Robertson Meredith, and sons-in-law, David Cooper, Al Meredith, and Forrest Owen. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Betty and Don Hogue, Wilma Owen, Ann and Ed Hamilton, Pat Poe, Dick and Judy Robertson, Kay and Pat Harris, Fay and Lex Dobbins, and Michael and Sandi Robertson. Eighteen grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and twelve great-great grandchildren complete the family. A cousin and lifelong friend, Maudie “Brightwell” Bridgeman also survives her. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 Thursday night; funeral services with Robert Wingfield officiating will be held at 10:00 Friday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main, 758-1170. Burial will follow at Rest Hills Cemetery. Her grandsons will be her pallbearers. The Family expresses heartfelt appreciation to Drs. Bennett, Ransom, and Liu and to Hospice Care for the gentle treatment that was given to their mother. Memorials may be made to Southern Christian Home, 100 W. Harding St. Morrilton, Arkansas 72110, or to Searcy Children’s Home, 509 N. Main St. Searcy, Arkansas 72143.
