Christine Xander

Christine Cockrum Davidson Xander, age 88, of Edina, formerly of Kirksville, passed away Thursday evening (April 28, 1994) at the Luther Manor Nursing Center in Hannibal.

Services were Sunday, (May 1, 1994) at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Edina with the Rev. DeWayne Wellborn officiating. Burial was in the Maple Hills Cemetery at Kirksville.

Mrs. Xander was born, September 24, 1905 in Novelty. The daughter of Alan [Allen] and Mary Simpson Cockrum. She married Albert W. Davidson who preceded her in death. She married Lawrence Xander and he survives, residing in Knox County Nursing Home in Edina.

She is also survived by a son Rodney Davidson of Stuttgart, Arkansas, a daughter Mrs. Joe (Wanda) Rhodes Brill of Terre Haute, Indiana; step-son, Darrell Xander of Edina, nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Truman Cockrum; a sister Margaret McCallie.

Mrs. Xander was reared in Knox County where she later moved to the states of Arkansas. Mrs. Xander graduated from High School in Arkansas. She attended the LaGrange College and received her Bachelor and Masters Degrees in education from the Northeast Missouri State College at Kirksville.

She taught in the Lone Star and Radical Ridge rural schools and finishing her career specializing in special education for many years at the Willard Grade School in Kirksville, before her retirement. She was also a substitute teacher in Adair and Knox County for several years. She was a pioneer with the Adult Reading program at Kirksville Decker Chapel in the 1930's. She also volunteered for "Meals on Wheels."
