Nancy Egede-Nissen, 78, died on Friday, February 19th, at home in the arms of her loving husband, Lars. She was born on April 5, 1937 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Wilbur and Maybelle Roda. She was raised in the Trumbull, Connecticut area.

As a single mother she pursued a social work career graduating from Sacred Heart and Fordham Universities with bachelors and masters degrees.

She worked for US Senator Christopher Dodd, community agencies, The Connecticut Hospice and Mid-Fairfield Hospice before founding her practices, Elder Family Service of Connecticut and later Houston, Texas.

Nancy volunteered at Hospice of Lansing and as a therapist and pastoral counselor in Texas, Florida and Ohio.

The Joslin Diabetes Center honored Nancy in 2012 with its Fifty-Year Medal to recognize the remarkable achievement of living with insulin-dependent diabetes for fifty years.

Nancy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She met her husband Lars in Connecticut and was married in 1993. She had three children from a previous marriage.

Her mother, father, sister Connie and brother Bill predeceased her. She is survived by her husband Lars of Okemos, Michigan, her children Kathy McGovern and husband Chris Tighe of Myrtle Beach, Sheilah McGovern of Maine, and James McGovern IV of Vermont, her grandchildren Haley and Lexis Galloway, Seamus, Maggy, Eilish and Fionnbharr Reynolds and James McGovern V, her husband’s four brothers, their families, her aunt, cousins, sister-in-law, niece and nephews.
