Mrs. M. C. Gerlt, widow of the late Jake Gerlt, passed away at the home of her son, Tom Gerlt at Nelson,Mo., June 29th. Mrs. Gerlt was in her 94th year.
Miriam Catherine Gerlt, daughter of Thomas Lee Hockaday and Nancy Jane (Clack) Hockaday, was born Jul 30, 1864 in Salem,Marion Co, Illinois. At an early age she came to Morgan Co, Missouri. She spent the greater part of her life south of Stover. About four years ago she went to Nelson,Mo to live with her son.
Mrs. Gerlt is survived by three daughters-Mrs John Cline of Versailles; Mrs. Estle Simmons, Stover,Mo;Mrs.N.J.Robinson of Columbia,Mo; five sons:-W.O. Gerlt,Stover,Mo;Charles Gerlt of Marshall,Mo;Golden Gerlt of St. Joseph,Mo;Jacob Gerlt of Stover,Mo; and Thomas Gerlt of Nelson,Mo. Also Surviving are 29 grandchildren and 38 great-grand-children, and one sister Nettie White of near Florence. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Gerlt was a member of the Baptist Church of Little Buffalo for more than 30 years. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 1, 1957 at 2 o'clock p.m. at Stevinson Funeral Home in Stover. Rev's James Delong and Mel Burnett officiated. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Burial was in the St. Paul's Cemetery three miles south of Stover.
