The death of Miss Adelaide B. Lippitt, a prominent and life-long resident of this village, occurred on Monday night following an illness of about three years. She was 79 years of age. Miss Lippitt was born at Hinman Hollow in the township of Hartwick on November 16, 1873, a daughter of the late Moses H. and Sara (Hinds) Lippitt. She lived her entire life-time at the Lippitt family homestead at No. 87 Chestnut street. She was graduated from Cooperstown High School in the Class of 1892, and then took a special music course at Wellesley College, Wellesley, Mass. She was organist and choir director of the First Baptist church for over 25 years and had a large class of piano and organ pupils during a private teaching career which spanned over 40 years. For about three years, she was a music and English teacher in a Baptist church mission school in Yokohoma, Japan, returning to this country in 1912 on account of ill health. Miss Lippitt was a life member of the First Baptist church, and was especially interested in its Missionary Society. She is survived by two brothers, Moses E. Lippitt and Ceylon K. Lippitt, and by two sisters, Mrs. Howard A. Potts and Mrs. Walter R. Littell, all of this village; six nephews, Ernest R. Lippitt and H. Gregory Lippitt, both of this village; Howard W. Potts of Fly Creek; W. Ricks Littell, Jr. of Albany; Dr. Duncan McEwan of Orlando, Fla., and Kendrick H. Lippitt of Earlville; six nieces, Mrs. H. Millard Joslin of Minneapolis, Minn., Miss Marguerite L. Potts of Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Robert Black of Mansfield, O., Mrs. William J. Barwick of Brightwaters, L. I.; and Mrs. Robert C. Morris of Cooperstown … Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery. Bearers will be Messrs. Robert C. Morris, Howard W. Potts, W. Ricks Littell, Jr., Ernest R. Lippitt, H. Gregory Lippitt and Kendrick H.
