Lebanon, Missouri [I guess] Oct 25, 1927
Mrs. Eva Belle Copes died Tuesday at the home of a sister, Mrs. L. E. Morris, at Springfield, death coming a a merciful relief from an inward cancerous tumor. Short funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the home in Springfield and the body was then taken to Fort Scott, Kansas and laid to rest by the side of Mr. Copes who died less than a year ago. Belle Steinberg, who was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. D. Steinberg, was born and reared in Lebanon. She received her education in the Lebanon schools and prepared herself for teaching. She taught in the Lebanon schools for a time and later at Rolla and other points in Mo.
In 1897 she was married to E. J. Copes, a well known bridge construction contractor. They went to Fort Scott, Kansas, and lived there and at Redfield, for several years. Later they went to Texas and lived for a long time at Cameron, where Mr. Copes passed away January 1st of this year. After his death Mrs. Copes came to Springfield to reside and was planning to take up sorority work later. About four months ago she found that she was in need of Medical attention.
Her brother, Leo Steinberg, of Tulsa, Okla, accompanied her to Rochester, Minn. where specialists discovered that a malignant tumor was beyond the help of surgical treatment and she returned to Springfield to await the end.
