William left England in 1854 with his parents, Thomas and Jane (Christon) Fisher. After a six week voyage they landed at New Orleans on May 29 and arrived Salt Lake City on October 28, 1854.
William was one of the first Pony Express riders hired by Howard Egan in 1860 and was assigned to ride the section between Ruby Valley and Shell Creek, Nevada. In July of that year he was transferred to the section between Salt Lake City and Rush Valley.
After the Pony Express stopped running, he worked for the Holladay Overland Mail Company and later was foreman of a construction crew on the Central Pacific Railroad. He was a pioneering merchant in Richmond Utah when he "called" to go to Oxford Idaho in 1876. He became the first LDS Bishop in 1877. He owned and operated the WF Fisher "People's Store" (See photo). He held many public positions such as Assessor & Tax Collector in the town and he was also Secretary of the Idaho Territorial Convention. He was also admitted to the bar in Idaho and practice in the Willard Crawford & W. F. Fisher, law, land, mining and collections office. In 1890 he bought a set of dentist's extraction instruments and started pulling teeth for a living. He moved to Rigby, Idaho, in 1918.
