MURPHYSBORO -- Lester E. Clutts, 89, of Murphysboro, passed away at 5:41 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at the St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2004, at Pettett Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Gordon officiating and burial at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and Saturday until the hour of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice or the family preferences are the First Baptist Church, Alzheimer's Association, and the American Cancer Society.

Lester was born on March 13, 1915, in Alto Pass, to Walter Clutts and Ella (Reeves) Clutts.

He had worked for 45 years at the former Brown Shoe Company in Murphysboro.

Mr. Clutts was a member of the First Baptist Church in Murphysboro, and was a lifetime member and past president of the Eagles Lodge. He was an avid fisherman and was a very talented musician, who had never had a music lesson. He had played in the Murdale Ramblers during the 1940s and 1950s.

He married Florence Cochran on Feb. 20, 1937, in the First Baptist Church in Murphysboro.

Mr. Clutts was preceded in death by his two children David Lee Clutts and Sharon Kay Jones.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Ruth Clutts Bowlby of De Soto, and son-in-law, Thomas Jones of Murphysboro; six grandchildren, David Lee Clutts, Jr. and his wife Theresa Clutts of Lockport, Robin Williams and her husband Kevin Williams of De Soto, Kateena LeForge and her husband Joe LeForge of De Soto, Laura James and her husband Greg James of Vergennes, Amanda Hine and her husband Jamie Hine of Murphysboro, and Thomas W. Jones of Murphysboro; eight grandchildren, Jared Clutts, Courtney Clutts, Erin Williams, Denton Williams, Caitlyn Ruph, Roni Jo LeForge, Garrett James and Ashley Hine.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers, one sister and his parents.
