Robert I. 'Bob' Armstrong, 80, of McAlester, died Wednesday at McAlester Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am, Friday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Dr. Randall Adams officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
Born September 11, 1915 in Hillsboro, Texas, he was the son of Lon F. and Annie Manly Armstrong. He married Hazel Easley on June 26, 1937 in Eufaula and was a lifelong resident of Pittsburg County. He worked as a salesman for Shipley Baking company from which he retired in 1970.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946 as a petty officer 2nd class.
He was a 32 degree mason and a member of McAlester Lodge No. 96. He was also a member of Harrison-Powers Post No. 79 American Legion in McAlester and served as a deacon for First Baptist Church of McAlester, where he was a 50 year member.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel, of the home'; two sons and daughters-in-law, Col. (ret.) Robert m. and Carol Armstrong, Chino Hills, California, and Sidney and Delene Armstrong of McAlester; a granddaughter and husband, Amy Dawn and John Melvin, Seattle, Washington.
Also, four grandsons, Mark Armstron, Chino Hills, California, Steven C. Armstron, Donald R. and Shelli Armstrong, and Richard D. Armstrong, all of McAlester; a sister, Mary Brassfield of McAlester; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard K. and Vickie Armstrong, Huntington Beach, California.
And, a brother-in-law and his wife, Mitchell and Jean Easley of Oklahoma City; four sisters-in-law, Violet Baird, San Leandro, California, Wilda Armstrong McCormick, Lesteree Easley, and Walterine Armstrong, all of McAlester; nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Bob Parkhurst, Lee Stone, Lee Anderson, Ron Davis, Jim Smith and Fred Slayton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Ellis, Carl Parkhurst, Jim McAlester, Bob Gragg, Eudell Barnes, Earl Dunn, Otis Duran, Sid borrenkott and the deacons of First Baptist Church of McAlester.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles W. Armstrong and Lee F. Armstrong.
