HERMISTON, Ore. -- Thomas Emerson Bevington, 98, died Thursday (Oct. 19, 2006) at the Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston, Ore.

He was born Sept. 11, 1908, in Custer County to Harley and Stella Bevington. He grew up and attended school in Nebraska.

He married Mary Olivia Yates. He later married Mary Elizabeth Sillivan. He lived in Superior, Grandview, Wash., and Jennings, Kan., before moving to Hermiston, Ore. He worked as a farmer, grain elevator manager for Missouri Grain Growers and Rusk Turkey Farm.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Mary Olivia and Mary Elizabeth; one son, Thomas Ralph; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Bevington and Mary Norma; a grandson, Dennis Brown; one granddaughter, Cherie Hays; four brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his two sons, Tim and wife, Erma of Hermiston, Ore., and Bruce and wife, Barbara of Scio, Ore.; four daughters, Judy Couey and husband, Bob of Stanfield, Ore., Kay Stafford and husband, Ron of Chelan Falls, Wash., Joan Kratzer and husband, Ace of Gold Beach, Ore., and Arliene Hays and husband, Al of Chelan Falls, Wash.; one sister, Myrtle Nichols of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Tuesday 1 p.m., in the Jennings Cemetery in Jennings,Kan.

Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
