Bobbie Owen Bonnel, Sr., 89, of Rushville, MO, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, MO.
Bobbie was born March 2, 1927 in Weston, MO, the son of John Thomas and Minnie Kathryn Brown Bonnel and raised on a farm north of Nortonville, KS by his grandparents. He attended the Star District #73 School in Nortonville, KS.
He and Kelma Joyce Thompson were united in marriage in 1955. Kelma preceded him in death in 1964. He and Gladys Marie Stalder were united in marriage on August 7, 1965 in Leavenworth, KS. Gladys preceded him in death on December 12, 2012.
Bob served in the United States Army from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954 after having served in Korea.
He was employed at Cooper Foundry of Atchison for ten years. He then went to work for Louis Glennon at Town and Country Tire as a mechanic for thirty seven years. After his retirement he worked for John Asher at Rainbow Car Wash.
In his spare time Bob enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, sharing stories with his coffee club friends, being with his family and most of all “working”.
Survivors include three sons; Bobbie O. Bonnel, Jr., Atchison, KS, Michael L. Bonnel, Spring, TX, stepson; Joseph McCoole, Atchison, KS, three daughters; Melinda Bonnel Underwood, Atchison, KS, Kathryn A. Bonnel, Atchison, KS, Lisa M. Bonnel Bridger, St. Joseph, MO, and a stepdaughter; Patricia McCoole Blacketer, Atchison, KS; a brother; Nick Bonnel, Irving, TX, and numerous grandchildren great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two stepdaughters; Lea Anna McCoole and Nancy Lou McCoole Christesen, a step granddaughter; Bobbie Lou Goodpasture, and a brother; John Bonnel, Jr.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 27, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Effingham, KS. Visitation with the family will be Thursday, May 26 from 6:00 until 8:30 p.m. at the Atchison United Methodist Church, 501 Kansas Avenue. Memorial contributions are suggested to Three Angels Seventh-Day Adventist Church, St. Joseph, MO and may be left in care of the funeral home.
