Married his 1st wife on her birthday. His mother died on his birthday and his dad died on the same calendar day as Don.
Served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, earning the rank of E9. During this time he served on the following ships: USS Hector, USS Stoddard, USS Watts, USS Long Beach, USS Eugene A. Green, USS Sierra, and USS W. M. Wood. During his career, Master Chief Kimble had tours during the Korea Conflict and Vietnam War. He served on the staff of Commander Destroyer Squadron Thirty-Two and ended his career on the staff of Commander Training Command, U.S. Atlantic Fleet in Norfolk, Virginia.
Don loved to play his guitar, watching the Seattle Seahawks, playing cards, and fishing. As a ten year old, he could be found traveling through the Ballard Locks in his Dad's row boat to go fishing by himself out in Shilshole Bay, Puget Sound.
When he was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, his family attended Tidewater Central Church of the Nazarene. It was there that he obtained a lay license to preach. Besides loving his family and the Navy, he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He faithfully read his Bible every day.
Upon retirement from the Navy, he and his family returned to the Pacific Northwest. He took a job in Bellingham, WA at Georgia Pacific as a Maintenance Supervisor. His men working for him loved him as their boss. He retired from there after 22 years.
He is survived by his second wife of 15 years, two daughters, five sons, thirteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two step-sons, and two step-daughters. He will be sorely missed.
He was the only man that I called Daddy. He was my trusted mentor, cherished friend, and best father-in-law. Loved me like his own son.
