The JOY of the Lord
“Well done, good and faithful servant, you were faithful ....” Matthew 25:21
Joy Dell Jones was truly the epitome of a life given to serving others. Born March 13, 1937, in Alma to Hughey and Jewel McCollum, the youngest of six sisters.
Joy was married 51 years to Larry W Jones of Terrell. She was a mother to three daughters, Dianne McClain, April Qualls and Becky Stevenson. She had three grandchildren, Chrysta Slemmons, Casey Clark and Peyton Stevenson and two great-grandchildren, Saint and Sawyer Slemmons.
In Bibical times, names depicted character and destiny, this was especially true of Joy. Her joyful spirit opened many doors of opportunity to serve.
While living in Mineola, she volunteered to help teach the students attending Trinity Christian Academy, helping to shape their young lives to be servants in the kingdom of God.
As a beautiful flower, she began to blossom through helping others. Joy realized she didn’t decide her God given purpose, but discovered it.
She was very active as an integral part of the chaplaincy program at Terrell State Hospital. While serving as a volunteer, she was given the Good Samaritan Award in 1995, reflecting hundreds of hours of dedicated service.
But Joy came into full bloom as she joined her husband to serve as volunteer chaplains at Kaufman County Law Enforcement Center. This is where they worked together for 18 1/2 years until her health prevented her from continuing. Joy passed away April 27, 2016, and her purpose had been completed. As we all want to leave a mark on this world, Joy truly did that by touching so many lives with her consuming love, even more than we will ever know.
Perhaps her life could be best described in the gospel of Matthew 25:35-36. “For I was hungry and you gave me food, thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you invited me in, naked and you clothed me, sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.”
“Joy, you will be greatly missed.”
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 7, from 2-4 p.m. at Cornestone Baptist Church in Terrell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation to Gospel for Asia in memory of Joy D Jones at 972-300-7777.

In true Aunt Joy fashion, and in keeping up with her tradition of selfless giving, she donated her body to science in the hope that she can continue to bring healing to those in need.
