Veteran World War II, Lieutenant Colonel, 53rd Field Artillery Battalion (105 mm), 6th Infantry Division, US Army, Pacific Theater of Operations; placed on active duty in 17 Dec 1941 and trained at the Battery Officer's Course, Field Artillery School, Fort Sill OK; separated from active duty on 15 Mar 1946. Ranks held: 2nd Lieutenant, Captain, Major, and Lieutenant Colonel. Overseas service include New Guinea Campaign, Sansapor Campaign, and Luzon Campaign. Awarded Bronze Star for action on Luzon Island, Philippine Islands. Son of Henry John Carter Jr. (1879 - 1951) and Sara Marie Loos Carter (1876 - 1959). He married Eleanor Louise Kelly (1916 – 1994) on 29 Apr 1941 at First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, Lancaster County NE. Parents of: Susan Jayne Carter (1954 – 1955), Victor S. Carter, Jr and his wife Patricia (Medford Lakes, NJ), Jay D. Carter and his wife Deborah (Wellington, FL, Mrs. Mary Louise Carter Ginn and her husband Raymond (Wellsboro, PA) . Occupation: Graduate University of Nebraska degree in architecture. Once home from World War II, he and his wife moved to Kansas City where he worked for Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Co, later moving to Butler NY where he was named District Distribution Manager in 1953.
