Funeral services for Mr. Herschel Lynn Holmes, 84, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 22, 2006 in the Chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Rushing officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Gardens mausoleum with Masonic Rites at the Mausoleum.
Mr. Holmes died September 17, 2006 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was born in Henderson County, TN at Scotts Hill on July 8, 1922 son of the late Joe W. and Lena Wade Holmes and received his education there and graduated from Scotts Hill High School. Mr. Holmes attended the Illinois Institute of Technology and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII. He was a member and past Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Pythias, a member of Jackson Masonic Lodge #45 where he served as Past Master and was a Shriner.
Mr. Holmes was employed for 28 years with Gulf Transport Service, retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 28 years service and was owner and operator of C. H. Bus Lines. He was Pentecostal in faith. Mr. Holmes was first married to the late Wilma Bailey Holmes, then was married to the late Vaughnell Scott Holmes who died August 7, 2003. A sister also preceded him in death, Bernice Holmes Adams.
Survivors include his companion, Henrietta Brasfield of Jackson; four daughters, Miss Franiece Richardson of Jackson, Angela Kee and Linda Lanier both of Memphis, TN and Beth Lane of Jackson; a brother, Ernest Holmes of Humboldt, TN; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
