From 1805 to 1848, four of the children of William and Elizabeth (Waler?) Pennington migrated westward from the New River Valley region of Virginia and West Virginia, where William Pennington, Sr. had settled by at least 1798. By 1810, daughter Elizabeth (Pennington) Ellison and her husband, Asa Ellison, Sr., moved into what was then Knox County, KY on the Clear Fork of the Cumberland River. By 1819, Elizabeth's brother and sister-in-law, William and Susannah (Nossman) Pennington, and Elizabeth's brother Andrew moved to and bought land on the Clear Fork. Their putative brother Rencenvay Pennington probably lived in Whitley County before marrying his wife, Dorcas Whitecotton, in Campbell County, TN c1836. By 1850, probably 1848, Rencenvey and Dorcas moved into Reynolds Co., Missouri, where we find the Penningtons and Dorcas' parents, Aaron and Nancy (Hatfield) Whitecotton on the 1850 census. Note: Andrew's wife and daughter moved to Campbell Co., TN after his death c1835.

From 1805 to 1848, four of the children of William and Elizabeth (Waler?) Pennington migrated westward from the New River Valley region of Virginia and West Virginia, where William Pennington, Sr. had settled by at least 1798. By 1810, daughter Elizabeth (Pennington) Ellison and her husband, Asa Ellison, Sr., moved into what was then Knox County, KY on the Clear Fork of the Cumberland River. By 1819, Elizabeth's brother and sister-in-law, William and Susannah (Nossman) Pennington, and Elizabeth's brother Andrew moved to and bought land on the Clear Fork. Their putative brother Rencenvay Pennington probably lived in Whitley County before marrying his wife, Dorcas Whitecotton, in Campbell County, TN c1836. By 1850, probably 1848, Rencenvey and Dorcas moved into Reynolds Co., Missouri, where we find the Penningtons and Dorcas' parents, Aaron and Nancy (Hatfield) Whitecotton on the 1850 census. Note: Andrew's wife and daughter moved to Campbell Co., TN after his death c1835.
