married Albert W Bruce on May 18, 1943 in Grainger, TN∼Bruce, Leona Akans age 95 of Strawberry Plains, TN passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at NHC Knoxville. Mrs. Bruce was a member of Strawberry Plains Presbyterian Church and former member of Washington Pike United Methodist Church, she was also a member of Eastern Star Bright Star Lodge. She was a loving, caring mother, grandmother and friend to everyone who was graced by the presence of her life. Preceded in death by husband, Albert W. Bruce; parents, Arthur G. and Lennie C. Akans; 2 brothers, George and Ernest; 4 sisters, Pauline, Nelle Anne, Marie and Marguerite. Survivors: daughter, Angela Jack Rader; son, Doug Bruce; daughter, Susan Bruce Maples; grandchildren, Rod Jack (Jennifer), Lisel Jack, Tonya Bruce Byrd (Tom), Josh Maples (Cynthia); great-grandchildren, Abby Jack, Tucker Jack and Caroline Jack; numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation to Vivian Pate, Vickey Rice, Wendie Gilliam as well as all the loving caregivers throughout the years including, the staffs of NHC Knoxville and SCHAS for their loving care and kindness. Funeral service 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Stevens chapel with Rev. Amy Aycock officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:45 a.m. Friday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service and interment.
