Born in Clarks Summit, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Margaret Ives Doud. She was a graduate of Clarks Summit High School and was employed as a hostess for several local restaurants including Perkins, Elby’s, and the Abington Heights School District in the cafeteria.
Prior to her retirement she was a Plantologist and owned and operated the Gravel Pond Nursery. She was a member of the Clarks Green United Methodist Church.
Esther was an avid tennis player for many years.
Surviving are two sons Robert D. Staples Jr. and his wife Jeanne, Clarks Summit; and Thomas H. Staples and his wife Patti, Waverly; two daughters Rebecca L. Bills and her husband Mitchell, Yulee Fl; and Pamela J. White and her husband John, Hilton Head, SC; a sister Jane Warr, Glendale CA; seven grandchildren Brian Staples and his wife Jennifer, Factoryville; Timothy Staples and his wife Valerie, Clarks Summit; Eric Staples, St Louis, MO; Amanda Staples, Germantown; Andrew Staples, Waverly; and Trevor and Evan White, Hilton Head SC; two great grandchildren Timothy Staples Jr. and Sarah Rezykowski, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother Harold A. Doud, and two sisters Ann Hall and Mary Josephine Cristiano.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11am from the Clarks Green United Methodist Church, 119 Glenburn Rd. Clarks Green, with services by Rev Brent Stouffer, Pastor. Interment will follow in Abington Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10am until time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clarks Green United Methodist Church at above address. Arrangements are entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St. Clarks Summit Pa.
