Janet R. Barber
Janet Rice Barber, 69, of Fredericksburg passed away quietly in her home on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014.
She was born Nov. 18, 1945, to the late F. Mason Rice and Gertrude Thomas Rice and was a lifelong resident of Fredericksburg.
She was known for her devotion to her family and all of their activities, deep interest in genealogy, volunteer work with the Children’s Miracle Network, awe-inspiring fire baton twirling, abounding love for all animals, extensive holiday decorating, and her attendance at every James Monroe High School Reunion.
She was preceded in death by son Wesley Alan Barber. Survivors include her other children: Anne “Anniepoo” Hughes and husband Shawn, Allan Barber and wife Leah, Christine “Teenie” Garton and husband Brian, and Cynthia “Cootie” Gerber and husband Thadius.
She was very proud of all her grandchildren and great- granddaughters and will always lovingly be remembered by them as “GMa.” Her grandchildren include Heather, Branden, Brittany, Shaylynn, Christopher, Dylan, Chandler, Scott, Tyler, Laura, Claire, Foster, Ashlyn, Colin and Grayson; and four great-granddaughters, Trinity, Winter, Chyenne and Scarlett.
She is also survived by her siblings, Bobby Rice, Patty Fox, Jimmy Rice and Carol Wilke; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also fondly remembered by her former husband, Charles Clifton Barber.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
A service will be held at noon Monday, Dec. 1, in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. A repass at Allan Barber’s home will immediately follow the interment .
In addition to flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Autism Society of North Carolina–Moore County Chapter, 1579 Rays Bridge Road, Carthage, NC 28327.
