Mr. Arnold was believed to have been the oldest active volunteer fireman in New York State, both in age and in years of service. He became a member of Moravia's fire company, the Alerts, formed May 3, 1876, and was an active member of the department at the time of his death. He was a charter member of Fitts Hose Company 2 one of the three companies of the present department. He was a musician and had played in many community bands. He was a member of the old Huff cornet band, formed in 1886. He was a member of St. Matthew's Church and was a vestryman.
Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Mary Davenport, of Moravia, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted in St. Matthew's Church at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Rev. W. S. Stevens, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Indian Mound Cemetery.
