The fifth son of Michael Williams Herring 1722-1805 and Charity Grady 1738-1805 in Dobbs County, NC.

Married to Penelope Williams-Pittman 1762-1850.

**William Giles Herring served with George Washington at Valley Forge during the Revolutionary War military and the North Carolina Historical Society has two certificates showing he was paid for his services one from the Wilmington District and the other from Bladen County.
After the war he married Penelope Williams-Pittman.
After William Giles Sr died in 1825 in Robeson County,NC in the 1830s six of his children sold the land holdings in North Carolina and moved to Carroll County, now Montgomery County, Mississippi and established a plantation on both sides of The Big Black River.
