GALESBURG - Staff Sgt. Joseph A. Strickland, 33, Galesburg, died at 4:33 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2016, in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born Sept. 1, 1982, in Galesburg, the son of Jack and Alice (Nelson) Strickland.
He is survived by his father, Jack Strickland of Galesburg; his stepfather, Ronald Folger of Galesburg; a brother, Steven Strickland of Galesburg; and a sister, Carisa Nelson of Abingdon. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Folger on July 8, 2010.
Joseph had been serving in the United States Army for the past 11 years. He was deployed to Afghanistan twice and Iraq once. He graduated from Galesburg High School.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2016, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, with Chaplain Blaine D'acci officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery.
