Margaret passed away Monday, May 9, 2016 at Heartland Health Care Center in Moline. The Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Margaret Agnes Barrett was born August 29, 1921 in Davenport, a daughter of Marion J. and Iva Lorene (Hunter) Barrett. She graduated from The Immaculate Conception Academy in 1939.
Margaret worked for many years for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, as well as Towncrest Medical Clinic in Iowa City, Iowa. She retired and returned to Davenport in 1996. She then enjoyed her years of volunteer work at the Veterans Clinic in Bettendorf. She was a member of St. John Vianney parish in Bettendorf.
She loved Iowa Hawkeye football for decades and attended home games well into her eighties. She also cheered for the Chicago Cubs and watched their broadcasts in retirement while needlepointing beautiful pictures. Her other joys in retirement included photographing her loved ones and watching the birds from her balcony.
Memorials can be made to the church or to the American Diabetes Association.
Those left to honor her memory include daughters Teresa Orgler, Arlington Heights, IL, Ann Marie Matthei (Bill), Wheaton, IL, Mary P. Stark (Ken), Waukesha, WI and son Tom Schwab (Jeanne), Davenport, IA. Also surviving Margaret are her 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Her sister Jane and brothers Pat and Jim Barrett preceded her in death.
