WASHBURN - Maurice Leon Bond, 92, of the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka, formerly of Washburn, died Monday, May 9, 2016, at the Apostolic Christian Home. Maurice has resided there since 2010.
Maurice was born May 17, 1923, to Floyd Rankin and Velma Mae (Cook) Bond in Brown County, Mt. Sterling, IL.
He married Roberta Elizabeth Varner on April 24, 1946. She preceded him in death on November 14, 1990. He later married Catherine Shirley Ransom on March 12, 1998. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Carl Leon (Kenda) Bond of Washington and Benita (Dan) VanCleve of Ashland; grandchildren, Kenric Leon (Brooke) Bond of Lisle, IL, and Seth DeLon (Shelli) Bond of Corona, CA; great-grandchildren, Josie Bond and Sara Bond; and step-great-grandson, Jacob Stewart; along with many nephews, nieces and cousins. Also surviving are Catherine's family, Mary Carlson, Shirley Newman and James Ransom, and their families.
He was a lifelong famer in Brown County, Illinois, where he lived until moving to Washburn, IL, and later LaRose, IL. He graduated from Mt. Sterling High School, Class of 1942. Maurice was a member of Timewell, Washburn and Pattonsburg Christian Churches.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Jones of Eureka and the caregivers of the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka for the care given him. Gratitude is also expressed to Visiting Pastor Dan Doty and communion stewards of the Crossroads United Methodist Church of Washington, Dick Thomas and Darryl Stonier of Pattonsburg Christian Church for their visits while Maurice was a resident of the nursing home.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Private family graveside services will be held at Linn-Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Washburn. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donors' choice.
Calvert & Johnson Memorial Home in Washburn is assisting the family with arrangements.
