John "Jack" Treece passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016, in Arlington. Graveside service: A family graveside service will be held in Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington. Moore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society of North Texas and the Wounded Warrior Project. Jack was born July 16, 1932, in The Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Ill., to Dr. C.A. "Lyle" Treece and Bess Miller Treece, who both preceded him in death. He graduated from Galesburg High School and attended Knox College in Galesburg, Ill., and Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a Purple Heart recipient. Jack worked for the federal government at Fort Walters in Mineral Wells, for Housing and Urban Development in Fort Worth and for the Defense Nuclear Agency in Albuquerque, N.M. He was also a longtime member of the Texas Thoroughbred Association and a charter member, along with his wife, of the Lone Star Park Jockey Club in Grand Prairie. He married Ruth Akard of Fort Worth on May 5, 1960. She preceded him in death in April 2013. Survivors: Daughter, Susan Pierard and husband, Steve; son, Ronald D. Treece and wife, Debbie; daughter, Sharon Emerson and husband, James; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry E. Treece and wife, Jackie, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two nieces.
