MAUMEE — A. Robert "Bob" Sabo, age 82, formerly of Sunset Drive, Conneaut, Ohio, died unexpectedly after complications from surgery, Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital, Maumee, Ohio.
He was born Sept. 23, 1926, in Conneaut, the son of Andrew and Julia (Kiss) Sabo and had been a Conneaut resident all of his life except for his last three months, when he moved to Perrysburg this January with his wife to be closer to their daughter. He graduated from Conneaut High School in 1945. Bob served in the U.S. Navy and was a Veteran of W.W. II. He worked for the railroad, was a Lakeville policeman, and retired from Reactive Metals in 1989. He was a member of the American Legion and a past Mason.
Bob was an avid golfer when he was younger and liked to boat and fish. He enjoyed gardening and had a bumper harvest last year. He took great pleasure in sharing his crop with friends and family, especially his hot, hot peppers. He was full of life and enjoyed his many friends.
He was especially proud of his family who will greatly miss him, especially Flora (Hall), his wife of 61 years, whom he married Feb. 14, 1948. He is also survived by his daughter, Bonnie Herb and husband, Ike; son, Robert Sabo and wife, Bev; four grandchildren, Jason Herb and wife, Karen, Kim Szabo and husband, Ed, Robert Sabo and Ashley Sabo; and three great-grandchildren, Lauren, Jared and Haley Szabo. He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Sabo; and sisters, Julia White and Emma Kennedy.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at the Hungarian Evangelical Reform Church, on corner of Harbor St. and Lake Road, Conneaut, Ohio, at 12 p.m., Noon, on Saturday, April 18th. The Rev. Robert Leonard, Pastor, will officiate with Full Military Honors being provided by the American Legion, Cowle Post #151.Family and friends will be received at the East Conneaut United Methodist Church, 809 Furnace Road, directly after the Memorial Service. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a contribution to the Hungarian Evangelical Reform Church.
