GATE CITY -- Mrs. Laura Bates Alley, 78, Route 1, was dead on arrival at the Hawkins County Memorial Hospital Friday afternoon. [June 9, 1972]
She was a life-long resident of Scott County and attended Bellamy Chapel Methodist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Polly Kerns, and Mrs. Zella Williams, both of Clinchport, and Mrs. Ivy Lane, Fort Blackmore; sons, Ralph and Eugene, both of Weber City, Lofie, Yuma, Chester, Clinchport, Gilbert, Fort Blackmore, and Clayton Alley, Detroit, Mich.; brother, Noah M. Bates, Clinchport; 25 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Gate City Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
