Silas Burd died on a cattle drive from a long term illness (probably TB) as he was moving his family from Texas back north. The family had been homesteading near the San Gabriel River probably close to Georgetown in Williamson County. He knew he was dying and wanted his family near relatives. The story of the trail drive is told in the book "Trail Boss in Pigtails" by Marjorie Filley Stover with the names changed.
