MRS. H. C. BLACKWELL DIES EARLY THURSDAY
Had Been Ill Over a Week –

PROVIDENCE, May 1- Mary Letha DeBard Blackwell, wife of Hazael O. Blackwell and one of the most prominent of the younger women of the community, died early Thursday morning at her home in Union township following an illness of the past week. The death came as a great shock to members of the family and to her many friends over the county, few of whom had known the seriousness of her condition.
For more than a week she had been suffering from a complication of kidney troubles which resulted in the death at 2:30 Thursday morning. Her condition had been made more serious by the birth of a stillborn child last Friday after the complications had developed.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 from the Providence Christian church where Mrs. Blackwell had been one of the most active members. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery at Franklin…
Mrs. Blackwell had been a leader in the community in the almost two years following her marriage. She was an active member of the Missionary society and the Ladies Aid of the Providence church and in addition in the Sunday school. Her efforts had extended into all forms of community activity and had won for her the warm affection and respect of her neighbors.
During her four years in Franklin College Mrs. Blackwell had been a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and was serving as president of the sorority’s alumni organization, a task which she was filling in a very capable manner. She had also participated in many college activities and had many friends among the faculty and student body and among the residents of Franklin. She was graduated from Franklin College with the class of 1921 and had later attended the Metropolitan School of Music and Dramatic Art at Indianapolis where her talents in those lines of activity had been further developed.
Mrs. Blackwell was born at Lebanon on June 16, 1892 and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton DeBard. She had attended the Lebanon schools and was a graudate of the Lebanon high school. Both during her residence there and following her graduation from Franklin College, Mrs. Blackwell had been active in society at Lebanon and leaves a large circle of friends there.
Surviving her death with the husband are the parents and a brother, Lester DeBard, of Lebanon, and a sister, Miss Ruth Edna DeBard, a member of the freshman class at Franklin College.
