Mary Ann "Polly" Higginbotham Boling is the daughter of Robert and Nancy Blankenship Higginbotham. She married Henry Boling/Bowling 19 Dec 1809 in Tazewell, VA. Her husband's brother-in-law, Rev. David Young, was the minister who married the couple. Sometime in 1813, the couple moved to Madison County, MT. Along with Henry & Polly was Polly's father and mother, Robert & Nancy Higginbotham, and William & Frannie Higginbotham Garrison, also relatives. They all settled in and around what was later known as Hazel Green, Madison county, Alabama. The couple are considered "First Families of Alabama" in that they lived in the territory that was to become Alabama before Statehood in 1819. The Higginbotham, Boling families are considered as "First Families" of Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia & Mississippi. Polly's father, Robert Higginbotham, fought at King's Mountain during the American Revolution, and is buried in Hazel Green, Madison, AL on land he first owned. Polly remarried after Henry's death to Chaney Brown. Her grave has not been located to date. It is known, however, she was buried in Jackson County, AL.
